Portraits Works In Progress (Zoë)

  1. I like your creativity in the brushing your teeth photo. The portraits without a person are somewhat interesting. Consider maybe using editing to increase their appeal. I don't think your first photo is very successful for this assignment. My attention goes to the dresser in the back instead of the person, so it isn't a very successful portrait. I'd like to be able to see more of the person.

  2. Hey Zoe, decent start on your WIP! I had trouble deciphering which photos went with which challenge, but I think you have some good ideas. I like the colors and objects in your last two images, but I don't believe it satisfies what is being asked for this assignment. There is almost too much going on to the point where, as the viewer, you don't know what to look at or where you are looking. Experimenting with the lighting and shadows in your first two images will also help accentuate your subject. Good start and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!!

  3. Hi Zoe. We talked about these so I won't go into a lot of detail. I will however ask where your other two images are of someone you know? As per the images you have shared. Give them more life and make sure that what is in the frame is important in the story telling process. I also think you should consider building a scene vs. taking a photo of something that exists. Meaning, should the fridge door be open with the room lights off and you get the glow of the light in the fridge. Should you have the person that created the note on the fridge walk through in photo during a long exposure, etc...... Same with the self portraits. Good Luck!
