I’m particularly drawn to your second photo for the first challenge. The body language is great and coupled with the setting, it makes perfect sense. I particularly love the sleeve over the hand! There’s something about that tiny detail that just catches my eye. In terms of the photos for your third assignment, I would probably replace the first image with a different image. This is a very literal take to not having a literal person in the frame and while I guess you met the criteria, it doesn’t seem very artful. I think if you instead took the time to set something about to convey something about a person, it would be more successful. Over all though, nice start!
Hi Laura, I like the images you put together for your WIP. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but I like how all of your images for the series were black and white. Keeping them the same makes this feel like more of a series of portraits as opposed to separate small assignments with no real connection between the sets of images. I really like your second and third images, I feel as though those are the strongest. I think the background grafiti and wall draws the viewers eye and takes focus away from the girl, or subject. Also, for the second image, I like the location and lighting, but would love to see you use the wall as some foreground and maybe get a closer-side portrait. Again, some of elements of the background draw the viewers eye away from the subject. I think the 3rd challenge was super difficult and one we all struggled with. I'd love to see you experiment more with different ideas and see what you come up with! Great start!!
Hi Laura. I think these are off to a good start, with your second image being very strong. The composition and body language is great, and you've given us just enough information to be effective. I would encourage you to continue working on the other images, but could see you keeping the last image, as there is something elegant and mysterious about it. Your self portraits are not examining you enough. Show us more about who you are. Good Luck!
