Ian- Exposure as a metaphor

  1. Hello Ian. I think you have some really good photos here. The last two are very pleasing to look at but especially the last one. There is so much detail in the last photo and there is a lot to look at. I think the composition is just great- the tree on the side, the long way down, the mountains above the clouds. Overall I just think this a very nice photo. The second image also has nice composition but I personally would prefer not to include the people. The first image I think is ok, here I would also prefer to have it without the person - I just think it takes away from the scenery, much like the the second photo. If you were to replace the first one, I think you could get a good photo here by just crouching down and looking between the stones at the beach. Also, I cannot exactly tell which photo is supposed to be almost white, almost black, and nothing but gray. I am guessing you would have to replace the first image with something that is more dark for it to work for this assignment - make it more defined. Also, there were supposed to be 6 images total. But overall, I think the first image is ok, the second is pretty good and the third is just great.

  2. The landscape photos you've selected to take are really stunning. The third picture especially stands out to me because you can see above the clouds and I imagine that's a pretty hard shot to get. Props to you for that one. I agree with emil-- I would crop out the people from the second shot. The second and third photo fit really well as a "grey" photo but I don't see the first one fitting as almost white or almost black. If you're going to use it in ur final images, I'd either over expose it or under expose it a lot more to create the feel the assignment is asking.

  5. Hi Ian. Great comment above. As these stand I think your middle image is working the best for Gray. I'm not sure if that is what you were going for or not, but it does work. Your first and third images have a tonal range that is too great to work for any of the criteria right now. Could they be processed in a way to make them work, probably not. IMO. Try to find subject matter that has a very limited tonal range for each of the challenges. This will help when processing the photos. Good Luck!

  6. Hi Ian. I really love all the photos they are truly beautiful! I think that with the bottom photo, it could be interesting to push the contrast even more. Maybe you could heighten the exposure and take the picture on an especially sunny day to really emphasize this? (it could be interesting to get more of an idea of where the sun exposure is coming from too)
