Cece WIP Exposure as a Metaphor

Works in progress

My initial idea was to photograph nude bodies using different exposures but then as I was photographing I grew a fascination with my subjects who had distinct body hairs & I wanna play with the idea of using exposures to conceal or highlight body hairs as a metaphor to represent the taboo that exists around body hairs. I'm currently looking for female models with hairy bodies but it's been really difficult to find. Wondering if anyone here has experience searching for models with particular body types and can give me tips! (everyone in these pics are over 18 yrs and consented to take these knowing they'd get posted to a class blog)

  1. I love this idea and your intent behind your images! I think that the first image for each challenge are strong images. The almost black images has enough highlights to make the subject known and is still dark. The same for the almost white images, with enough shadow. The grey images is also really well done! I do think that your second black images may be too dark - depending on the device I'm using, I can barely see what the image is. Overall, though, really good set.

  2. I also really like the theme you've decided to do for this assignment. I actually really like the second image of your grey series. I also like the two images for your white series. I agree that the second image of the black series is a little too dark. I had the same issue when I was editing mine! I would also maybe suggest cropping the first grey image into a square.

  3. Hi Cece. I think you are off to a really great start with these! I would encourage you to not focus so greatly on the idea of Hair, but rather just explore and play to see what happens. I agree with comments above and would retake at least one image for Black and perhaps even two. Black will be the most challenging depending on the persons natural skin tone. If you have a friend or family member that has a darker skin tone you will be in a better place to start. I think in some cases, such as the armpit, you could be more aggressive with your composition and lighting, while at the same time be more subtle and not "slap" us in the face with the armpit itself. It will be great to see what you end up with as finals! Good Luck!
