  1. Eleanor,
Nice photos! I think a lot of these have the ground working for the final project. My biggest advice is to be a bit more liberal with edits. I think your color photo doesn't have much color at all, which makes it feel like it doesn't fit the bill. I think that could be something emphasized through the editing process though as it is an interesting photo. Your vignette is alright but I think you could work on the feathering so it doesn't look too obvious and overwhelming. I personally have never liked vignette in general though so that's just my opinion. Use of shadows in your square photo are essential, I can tell it's a shot inside of a basket, but if you emphasize the shadows you will have more depth perception and perhaps a more interesting photo. Your split toned picture doesn't personally do much for me, I think you could play a bit more with the colors and hues and then also watch out for noise. Otherwise I think these are a great step towards the final project.

  2. Hi Eleanor. You are seeing the right things. Not put those items into a more dynamic composition and try to photograph them in more interesting light. As Skylar mentions you are too timid with your edits. Use LR to strengthen different parts of your images and don't be afraid to really push that digital information. As we also talked about, be careful not to fill your frame with repeating subject, as is the case with most of these. Give us some negative space or a break from the patterning. I think you should shoot more images an try to improve on what you've started. Good Luck!

  3. Hi Eleanor. I think you are definitely looking in the right place for abstraction photos. As Skylar and Andy mentioned, you can try to use Lightroom in order to make the photos look more unusual. For this abstract assignment, I think it would really help if you could exaggerate or bring more emphasis on certain features of a photo. For example, I think if you somehow adjusted the lighting in picture 2 and exaggerated some of the colors, it would make for a more interesting photo. I also personally like how image 1 turned out, but perhaps you can try to do more with the editing. I would suggest to look at some examples of abstraction photography in order to see what other types of abstraction pictures you can take besides pattern photos. But other than that, I think you're heading in the right place.
