Devitt. Good is not the Same as...

Good is not the same as...

                                                                            Important

I have chosen this picture to understand that good is not the same as important. This photo is something that I find to be important, a creature that I find to be very notable and important in our world and lives. Despite the importance of this pollinator, this picture may not be considered to have aesthetic power.

                                                                            Interesting
I have chosen to use this picture as an interesting picture as it is one that I was very inspired by the setting of the photo. While I know that I was interested in the setting and even the coloring of the photo, I do believe aesthetically it could have been better.

Useful
I have chosen this as a useful photo as it is an advertisement that I did for a company. While this picture clearly depicts exactly what the product is, it isn't an aesthetically pleasing picture in the least.

Liking
While this is a photo that I love and is near and dear to me, it isn't necessarily a photograph that has much for other people to care about. It is something I care about and love and therefore that adds meaning to the picture for me personally.

All photos were taken by me.

  1. I think your example for "useful" is really well done. Not only is it awesome to see your cute dog, but it also brings up how brand promotion could come into conflict with aesthetic choices as you have to focus on the brand instead of other aspects of the image.

  2. I love your example for "important," I think that the yellows really make the photo aesthetically pleasing to look at. I also think that using it as the first photo was really smart; while it does fit the prompt, it also grabs your attention. I do wish it focused on the bee a little better, but honestly I'm too amazed that you were able to get that close to one. I know they're friendly, but I'm still wary of them.

  3. I absolutely love your bee picture-- I'm a huge bee fan myself and love taking pictures of them as well. I agree with the comment above for the most part, but I also know how hard it can be to focus on a tiny fast moving insect, so I'm also pretty impressed. What device and/or camera lens did you use to take this picture? Just curious!!

    1. Thanks! I have a Canon EOS 4000D and used an 18-55 mm lens for this picture. I wish I had a better one because I would have loved if it focused just a bit more on the bee but still really liked the photo. Luckily shutter was quick enough to capture the photo!
