Ananjan: Good Is Not The Same As

Good Is Not The Same As

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Good" is not the same as "Important"

This photo is important to me as it shows the dramatic impacts that global warming has had on ecosystems around the world. Here, a polar bear and its cub are seen looking out at a vastly changed polar landscape, where the melting of ice has left them in need of new territory.

"Good" is not the same as "Useful"

This Lego instruction manual that dates back to 1990, is an example of a useful collection of images that serves its purpose of helping the customer build a vintage F1 race car. Although they aren't the most aesthetically pleasing pictures, they clearly show the builder what to do next and are pretty useful.

"Good" is not the same as "Interesting"

This photo shows the Curiosity rover that was sent to Mars, taking a selfie on the red planet on October 11, 2019. This picture interests me as it makes me think about the possibilities of travel through space and whether humans could actually live on a planet besides the Earth in the near future.

"Good" is not the same as "Liking"

This photo shows two footballing superstars, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, celebrating a goal in front of rival fans. This was a moment that I enjoyed quite a lot as a young Manchester United fan, being able to beat Liverpool in their own backyard.

  1. What I love about this post is the back-to-back pairing of the Lego instruction sheet and the Mars rover shot. I almost laughed audibly. Obviously, the Lego instruction sheet would not be considered a “Good” photograph. It did get me thinking, however, where are the lines drawn with photographs and digitally drawn/created images? I know nothing about photography, but my mind wants to say that just the top left image is a photograph. I think about having to hold or set up a physical camera for it to be a photograph. But then again, I have no clue! I actually really like the Mars rover shot. Maybe it’s the sense of depth or the funny concept of a robot taking a selfie. It’s hard to tell if I like it for aesthetic or meaning-related purposes.

  2. I think that “ Important” photo is not only when we are thinking about what is important in personal, but it is about globally. So I think this is right choice. “Useful “ photo I think it is right, and as well made my smile. “ Interesting” photo it is really interesting if you think about robot taking a selfie. “Liking” maybe more personal what you like.
